Pina Guava Colada Character Designs
Pina Guava Colada is a storyboard project about a girl applying for art school. In the world the story takes place, everyone has a monster companion as a friend. The three characters in this project are Guava- a bright student, Pina-her monster companion, and Celery- a stern teacher.
Guava is a Latina character whose color palette is inspired by the guava fruit. Her hair is designed to have a letter "G" in it. While she is wearing her glasses, Guava's eyes must always be inside of the lens, even from the side. This is to avoid too many extra lines to her side profile. The items she is featured with make appearances in the storyboard.
Pina is Guava's personal monster that I describe as a pineapple chicken. Their color palette and shapes reference pineapples. Pina's design is inspired by Chocobos from Final Fantasy and Agumon from Digimon.
Celery Green is the teacher that Guava is hoping to impress. Her body is inspired by the shape of celery stalks while her face slightly references Picasso, linking her more to fine art. Celery's 3 part hair design was changed due to complications in her turnaround.
Residents of Lurai
Lurai is a fictional land home to humans, elves, and other magical creatures.
Luna is a young elf from the fictional land of Lurai. They are featured in a project I am currently developing. Luna is naive to the ways of the world, but always approaches new situations with excitement and intrigue. They carry a large staff inspired by a den-den daiko that they use to cast magic, but they aren't very skilled at it. Luna's design inspiration is Link from The Legend of Zelda.
Dmitri is a monster hunter from the fictional land of Lurai.
Mido is an independent character. She is a seamstress who uses her fabric to float around town. Mido's name derives from the Japanese word 糸 (ito) which means thread.
